The Idlewild South Guide to Goodwill Hunting in Atlanta

"I'm gonna pop some tags / Only got twenty dollars in my pocket.
I - I - I'm hunting, looking for a come-up / This is f* awesome"
                                                                                                            - Macklemore

So I'm delving into my closet of tricks and bringing you tips for successful thrift store shopping in Atlanta. Consider it the Bougie Girl's Guide to Thrifting: Scoring Dior for the Price of a Latte. I've been thrifting since high school, and I've learned a few things along the way about curating a high-end closet for pennies on the dollar.

Lessons learned: Don't go in looking for one specific item, browse...patience, grasshopper. Focus on quality, NOT quantity. Always wash/dry clean. J. Crew and Brooks Brothers is everywhere: Blouses, t-shirts, etc. - Seize it, tailor it. Used shoes: Hell no.

Now here is my list of preferred Goodwills and other thrift shops along with photos of some of my scores...And please enjoy the playlist below for your tag-poppin' pleasure.

THE IDLEWILD SOUTH GUIDE TO GOODWILL HUNTING

5. Goodwill: Buckhead Store

Past Finds: Theory, Current/Elliot, Yoanna Baraschi, BCBG Max Azria. Often picked over, this is still a really good and nearby spot for shopping. Focus on the dress section, blazers and tops for best luck. Housewares here can also be a score!

Goodwill: Buckhead Store

Atlanta, GA 3034
Phone: (404) 869-3112
Hours and more info available HERE.

4. Goodwill: Northside Drive Store

Past Finds: J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Joie, men's cashmere. This one takes a bit more patience, not as many high-brand scores, but good for quality/tailorable pieces like blouses, skirts and denim for cut-offs.

Goodwill: Northside Drive
1460 Northside Drive
Atlanta, Georgia 30318
Phone: (404) 367-0077
Hours and more info available HERE.

3. Goodwill: Norcross Store

Past Finds: Nicole Miller, Chloe, Diane von Furstenburg. This is my diamond in the rough. In the heart of the 'burbs, I've found some amazing surprises - both high-brands and vintage. If you find yourself waaay down Peachtree St./141, make a stop and have some fun (and head on up 141 a little further for Alexis' Suitcase, a good designer consignment stop in Johns Creek).

Goodwill: Norcross Store
5450 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 1
Norcross, GA 30092
Phone: (770) 734-9394
Hours and more info available HERE.

2. Nearly New Shop

Past Finds: Pucci, Saks Fifth Avenue, Carven, Theory. Skip most of the store and focus on the designer rack for a quick in-and-out spot with occasionally amazing finds.

Junior League of Atlanta Nearly New Shop
1715 Howell Mill Road
Atlanta, Ga. 30318
Phone: (404) 355-3547
Hours and more info available HERE.

1. Cathedral of St. Philip Thrift House

Past Finds: Armani, Jil Sander, St. John, Marni, Neiman Marcus, Bill Blass. You'll find the most amazing goods here...minus the Catholic guilt. The first rack you'll see to the right when you walk in is full of designer duds, cast-offs from the closets of Buckhead, prime for the taking! Sometimes it's just painfully '90s-style pieces (designer or not, crop tops should never be a thing), but sometimes it's gorgeous separates/dresses in great condition.

Cathedral of St. Philip Thrift House
1837 Piedmont Road NE
Atlanta, Ga. 30324
