Dropping the Needle + Idlewild South: Music Festival Series 2013

Mick Jagger + Jerry Hall. David Bowie + Iman. Billy Joel + Christie Brinkley. Jack White + Karen Elson. Jamie Hince + Kate Moss. The list goes on, but what's the common demoninator? Music + Fashion. It always fits together and always will, both are complete forms of self expression, don't you just love that?

On that note, I'm beyond thrilled to roll out a new series with Molly Free of Dropping the Needle. I've been a fan of Dropping the Needle for a while now, and it's been amazing to collaborate with Molly - I know you'll love what she has in store!

Welcome to the Music Festival Series...complete with style advice, playlists and more! From classics like Coachella, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza and newbies like Hangout and Shaky Knees, there is an amazing list of 2013 festivals in the Southeast and nationally that are providing tons of musical and style inspiration!

So slip on your ankle booties, grab a floppy hat, and don't forget the passes...let's get this tour bus on the road, starting with Austin's South by Southwest. I don't know about you, but seeing all of the amazing #SXSW tweets make me crazy jealous, relegated to digging into playlists, pouring over lineups, etc. If you feel the same, Molly's post below should satisfy your music and fest-fashion needs...ATX-style.

Stay tuned for much more style and your new favorite jams. In the meantime, follow Dropping the Needle online for all your music news and fashion inspiration at and on Twitter @droppingdaneedle.

Greeting Idlewild South-ers! Thank you so much for letting me share my style & music thoughts with you!
Let's talk SXSW. This conference/festival made festivals cool again. It has been going on for 26 years! Definitely the tastemaker of all festivals.
Today we’re talking trends of style seen at SXSW. Since it is down in the heart of Texas in Austin, the typical bohemian festival style does apply but with a rustic vibe. You will see a ton of vintage pieces mixed with hippy inspired silhouettes, lacey tops, and floral prints. When you think Texas I automatically think denim so chambray and the current on trend denim vest will definitely be a part of the SXSW runway. Shoe options will of course include some sort of boot (what would Texas be with out boots!?), a wooden wedge, and a festival wouldn’t be complete with out some Vans sneakers. Accessories will include a vintage inspired pair of sunnies, anything gold, fringe, and a menswear inspired hat.
Take these trends home with you because the festival look is always a MUST for Spring!
Yee-haw fellow hipsters!
