Woman of Style: Grace Coddington

I rewatched The September Issue last night and am continually struck by the scene-stealing Grace Coddington. As Creative Director of Vogue U.S., her vision and classic sense of glamour are reflected in the brilliant editorials she oversees. If you've ever gasped, smiled or been swept up by a brilliant spread of photos in Vogue over the last two decades, it's likely Grace's handiwork. She's feisty, smart and stubborn - love her. Not to mention that hair!

"I think I got left behind somewhere, because I'm still a romantic."

Of course there will always be a place for sleek sophistication, but give me whimsy and charm any day. Of Grace's work, Anna Wintour says it best: "Grace is a genius. There's no one [else] that can visualize a picture or understand the direction of fashion or produce a great shoot - she's just remarkable."

"In my early years as a fashion editor....Norman Parkinson taught me to always keep your eyes open...keep watching, because whatever you see out the window or wherever, it can inspire you."

Excellent piece in the Economist's More Intelligent Life
If you haven't seen the movie, watch it right now (currently on Netflix)!

South's Finest: Wes Gordon

image via

It's creative minds like Wes Gordon that put the rest of us to shame. At only 25, the young Atlantan-cum-It Boy of the design world is setting the stage for praise and glory, following in the luxurious footsteps of Oscar de la Renta and Tom Ford (he studied with both).

Lucky Magazine has a great piece on Wes here, proclaiming his It-ness and elaborating on his collaboration with Jones New York to make careerwear for working girls like us (read: who can't afford his premium collection duds). I'm not a huge fan of Jones New York, but this is a smart move for them, and there are definitely a few tempting pieces in his collection at Bloomingdales!

In the meantime, why not just lust over his Fall 2012 RTW collection, recently shown in New York Fashion Week...

Wanderings: New York City, February 2012

A few weeks ago, I had a work trip to New York, which every time proves itself to be the most fascinating city ever. Highlights include: Stumptown Coffee in our fabulous hotel, The Ace (also houses The Breslin, eat there!), Grand Central Station (consistently inspiring), Eataly, Ladurée and Blue Ribbon Bar.

So much more amazingness, but these are the best poorly-shot iPhone photos I have. I did FINALLY purchase a neon yellow Cambridge Satchel at Henri Bendel's...and it felt so right, as all New York purchases do.
