Idlewild South Happenings: Julie Bee's Trunk Show at Bill Hallman Studio, Tonight!

We're almost to the weekend, can I get a Hallelujah? Let's start things off on the right foot by celebrating the amazing creators behind Julie Bee's, a gorgeous line of handcrafted footwear (scroll down for examples), founded and designed right here in Atlanta. I'm such a fan!

The founders and creators behind the line are hosting a trunk show tonight from 5-8 p.m. at Bill Hallman Studio in Buckhead's Shops Around Lenox featuring some of THESE and more deeply fabulous designs. Hope you can stop by!

Shop Julie Bee's online at www.myjuliebees.com and find her on Facebook for more information! For directions and more information, visit www.billhallman.com. And when you're done scooping up your new Julie Bee's, I highly recommend a solid cocktail at Seven Lamps, also in Shops Around Lenox (try the Goin Back to Cali "Beer-Tail!").

Idlewild South Style Report: Shaky Knees Music Festival

The first ever Shaky Knees Music Festival was held this past weekend (May 4-5), and there was no shortage of amazing music, festival style and rain...lots of rain. The showers and mud made things interesting, but the crowds were clearly loyal music lovers and not afraid of a little mess. That's rock n roll for you, right?

I had a blast get some shots of festival attendees! I really haven't ever seen that many cool Atlanta dressers in one spot; it was so amazing that I could barely keep up, but you'll find some key snaps below...with more to come!

If you attended, what were your favorite shows? I thoroughly enjoyed Shovels & Rope, Vintage Trouble, Moon Taxi and Frontier Ruckus! Enjoy the playlist at the bottom while you scroll through!

Idlewild South Weekend Warm-Up ft. Dropping the Needle: Shaky Knees Music Festival

It's finally here!! The weekend we've all been waiting for in Atlanta....The inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival. This two-day, three-stage, 28-band festival is a huge first for Atlanta; the lineup is incredible and stages are set for some seriously amazing music. I'm particularly excited to see Gary Clark Jr., Shovels & Rope, Delta Spirit, Drive By Truckers and Jim James, but honestly each of these shows offers something I want to experience!

"Shaky Knees‘ inaugural lineup will feature headliners The Lumineers and Band of Horses as well as Jim James, Drive By Truckers, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Dr. Dog, Delta Spirit, The Antlers, Kurt Vile & The Violators, The Black Angels, The Joy Formidable, Heartless Bastards, Oberhofer, Frontier Ruckus, Murder By Death, Shovels & Rope, Moon Taxi, GOAT, Hanni El Khatib, The Orwells, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, Vintage Trouble, Robert Ellis, You Me & Apollo, Roadkill Ghost Choir, T. Hardy Morris and Death On Two Wheels."

WHAT: Shaky Knees Music Festival
WHEN: Saturday, May 4 from noon - 10 p.m.; Sunday, May 5 from noon - 10 p.m.
WHERE: Old 4thWard (Masquerade Music Park Stage, O4W Park Stage, North Ave. Stage)
TIX & INFO:  www.shakykneesfestival.com / Twitter @shakykneesfest / Facebook.com/shakykneesfest / Instagram.com/shakykneesfest

While this will be a far cry from the recent Coachella, I'm hoping we can really bring out the style for this fest, Atlanta. Some mix of Coachella's California-cool with a splash of Glastonbury's Brit-grunge-chic? C'mon girls (and guys), we can do this. Here's a little photo inspiration to help...I'm going for some sort of combo of the following looks.

Then keep scrolling down, because to help us all figure out what the *$&# to wear to this shindig, I'm bringing Molly Free of Dropping the Needle back onstage for another installment of the Music Festival Series on Idlewild South. Take it away ma'am!

continuing on with my excitement for this weekend’s shaky knees festival, it is only right that today’s what the !@$# do i wear wednesday be all about the fashion you will see this weekend!

now the weather is supposed to be iffy, rain no rain? muggy? it is also going to be outside in a park so plan on getting a bit dirty and bring something to sit on or shield you from some sprinkles.

bandeaus are a key piece for summer time and great for layering under tanks or pairing with some high waisted shorts. bring a light military jacket to dual as a cover for your head should it sprinkle some. sneakers will keep you comfy and from hurting your toes in case you get stepped on.

overalls are making a HUGE comeback, i am seeing them everywhere. love these in an acid wash print. throw on a bandeau underneath and keep a light long-sleeve top for when the sun goes down. these leather booties will be comfy and keep your feet dry.

accessories such as a hat, over-sized glasses, and a fanny pack are all necessities. bring a blanket to spread out with your friends.

what do you think you guys are going to wear?!

Tumblr Tuesday: Just The Design

To continue with some of my favorite Tumblrs (with particular attention to design blogs), I want to call out Just the Design. Based in London, the looks are assorted - industrial, clean, dark, bright, and on, but there is an overall focus on the lines and bones that make a great space. This is a great resource for finding inspiration and learning about the designers, architects, photographers, etc. behind these amazing works. First, though, get to know Just the Design...I've grabbed a few of my favorites below (with credits). Enjoy!

The Idlewild South Guide to Goodwill Hunting in Atlanta

"I'm gonna pop some tags / Only got twenty dollars in my pocket.
I - I - I'm hunting, looking for a come-up / This is f* awesome"
                                                                                                            - Macklemore

So I'm delving into my closet of tricks and bringing you tips for successful thrift store shopping in Atlanta. Consider it the Bougie Girl's Guide to Thrifting: Scoring Dior for the Price of a Latte. I've been thrifting since high school, and I've learned a few things along the way about curating a high-end closet for pennies on the dollar.

Lessons learned: Don't go in looking for one specific item, browse...patience, grasshopper. Focus on quality, NOT quantity. Always wash/dry clean. J. Crew and Brooks Brothers is everywhere: Blouses, t-shirts, etc. - Seize it, tailor it. Used shoes: Hell no.

Now here is my list of preferred Goodwills and other thrift shops along with photos of some of my scores...And please enjoy the playlist below for your tag-poppin' pleasure.

THE IDLEWILD SOUTH GUIDE TO GOODWILL HUNTING

5. Goodwill: Buckhead Store

Past Finds: Theory, Current/Elliot, Yoanna Baraschi, BCBG Max Azria. Often picked over, this is still a really good and nearby spot for shopping. Focus on the dress section, blazers and tops for best luck. Housewares here can also be a score!

Goodwill: Buckhead Store
3906 Roswell Road
Atlanta, GA 3034
Phone: (404) 869-3112
Hours and more info available HERE.

4. Goodwill: Northside Drive Store

Past Finds: J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, Joie, men's cashmere. This one takes a bit more patience, not as many high-brand scores, but good for quality/tailorable pieces like blouses, skirts and denim for cut-offs.

Goodwill: Northside Drive
1460 Northside Drive
Atlanta, Georgia 30318
Phone: (404) 367-0077
Hours and more info available HERE.

3. Goodwill: Norcross Store

Past Finds: Nicole Miller, Chloe, Diane von Furstenburg. This is my diamond in the rough. In the heart of the 'burbs, I've found some amazing surprises - both high-brands and vintage. If you find yourself waaay down Peachtree St./141, make a stop and have some fun (and head on up 141 a little further for Alexis' Suitcase, a good designer consignment stop in Johns Creek).

Goodwill: Norcross Store
5450 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 1
Norcross, GA 30092
Phone: (770) 734-9394
Hours and more info available HERE.

2. Nearly New Shop

Past Finds: Pucci, Saks Fifth Avenue, Carven, Theory. Skip most of the store and focus on the designer rack for a quick in-and-out spot with occasionally amazing finds.

Junior League of Atlanta Nearly New Shop
1715 Howell Mill Road
Atlanta, Ga. 30318
Phone: (404) 355-3547
Hours and more info available HERE.

1. Cathedral of St. Philip Thrift House

Past Finds: Armani, Jil Sander, St. John, Marni, Neiman Marcus, Bill Blass. You'll find the most amazing goods here...minus the Catholic guilt. The first rack you'll see to the right when you walk in is full of designer duds, cast-offs from the closets of Buckhead, prime for the taking! Sometimes it's just painfully '90s-style pieces (designer or not, crop tops should never be a thing), but sometimes it's gorgeous separates/dresses in great condition.

Cathedral of St. Philip Thrift House
1837 Piedmont Road NE
Atlanta, Ga. 30324

Shop: imogene + willie: Intimates {new!}

And now a shameless plug for one of my favorite Nashville names...imogene + willie. In addition to making the most perfect pairs of denim (I swear by my Imogene Slims), they've just launched a line of beautiful, slouchy-but-chic intimates. Most pieces are a blend of cotton and silk, which means these pieces will be seriously comfy and of lovely quality (this is imogene + willie we're talking about), but also elegant enough to throw over some jeans or shorts for Saturdays at the farmer's market/errand running and lazy Sundays. I pretty much only sleep in big, cozy men's oxford shirts, but only because I crave a fit like the Mae nightshirt from i+w's new line...I'm also digging the Virginia short in chambray and the Martha slip.

Shop the line for yourself at imogene + willie's beautiful Nashville shop or online. Sweet dreams, Idlewild South sleepheads!

Idlewild South Beauty: Spring Favorites

April is here, and there's still barely a sign of spring weather in Atlanta - How is this?! Either way, my beauty regimen has seen a little spring cleaning lately, and I thought I'd share some good new finds along with a playlist of current favs - Enjoy!

This stuff is such a lifesaver! With this winter/spring/winter again weather in Atlanta, moisturization (hate that word) has been an issue...#firstworldproblems. Formulated with pansy extract, chamomille, calendula and a mix of lavender, rosemary and sweet orange oil, Weleda Skin Food smells incredible and, once it sinks in, makes your hands, elbows, cuticles or whatever feel like "buttah." You can find it here on VitaCost at about $12 for 2.5oz, and trust, a little goes a very long way...I learned this the hard way; now my car steering wheel will be conditioned for weeks. Get this, throw it in your purse, love it!

This purchase originated from a typical Target trip. You know, where you go in for one thing and come out with ALL the things. The natural beauty aisle at Target (shop online here) has a good selection of Alba, Burt's Bees, Dr. Bronners and more, it gets be every single time. Alba's Hawaiian Facial Cleanser is perfect at the end of the day, takes off all that makeup, smells like the tropics (in a good way) and the price is right ($9.99).

Thanks to a recommendation from my beauty expert / friend Sarah Ann of Eat.Drink.Repeat I've found an amazing new moisturizer - A Perfect World by Origins ($39.50). I use it following their fantastic Checks and Balances cleanser in the morning and evening and have seen an improvement in problem spots and overall clarity. It smells great and feels light, not a bit greasy. This may be my intro to a full fledged Origins addiction; I love the quality of their product and commitment to natural / eco-friendly products.

It seems like over the past year, BB Creams went from nonexistent to beauty essential. I jumped on the bandwagon and plan to ride this train to the finish because they provide the perfect mix of coverage and protection. I love Stila's Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm, it's lightweight, evens tone and makes a great primer for powder foundation...definitely give this a try! The only competition I've found so far is Too Faced Beauty Balm, but I always end up coming back to this one.

Now this is what I call a drugstore beauty must. L'Oreal's Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner ($8.99) is a chunky, crayon-like liner that goes on super smooth, but is perfectly smoky. The grey in particular provides the perfect rock and roll / slept-in-but-chic look in a single swipe...Trust me, you need this!

MONDAY: Purpose

I found an amazing quote today from the Free People blog (a daily favorite) about focusing on the purpose behind what you do. This is on my mind a lot lately, so I thought I'd share...along with a few other good get-you-going-on-Monday quotes and some quality music below!

Not only is it crucial to prioritize and streamline your daily/weekly schedule, but keeping a clear head and drive for why you're doing what you're doing keeps energy high and motivation up! It's easy to focus on the immediate outcome of the day-to-day (your work, workout, hobbies, etc.), but having the clarity and perspective - two of my favorite words - to see how those puzzle pieces of your life (career, relationships, health, etc.) are fitting together is a totally different story. It's often the most gratifying thing to evaluate and keep front of mind.

If you're feeling a little "off track," it's completely empowering and exciting to sit down with a cup of tea/coffee, crank some tunes and write out thoughts on where you are and where you want to be. Taking the time to be sure you're all set spiritually, emotionally and physically is worth every minute.
